摘要:Resource-based-view states that valuable, rare, imperfectly imitable and non-substitutable firm resources lead to sustained competitive advantages (Barney, 1991). We investigate to what extent firm-specific human capital leads to better firm performance by using textual analysis to measure hard-to-measure intangible resources. We show that firms paying more attention to training, which is an important way of accumulating firm-specific human capital, experience more performance improvements. We also show that providing training to employees lead to larger performance enhancements than hiring well-educated employees. In addition, we also find the complementarities between training and education as well as between training and employee wellbeing. We show evidence for two channels through which training improves firm performance – that is, imperfect strategic factor markets and firm complexity.

报告人简介:

石劲教授现任澳大利亚麦考瑞大学商学院金融学教授、博士生导师,澳大利亚国立大学金融学博士毕业。现为澳大利亚和新西兰会计和金融协会会士,亚洲金融协会理事,SSCI来源期刊《Accounting and Finance》执行副主编。研究领域主要包括中国资本市场、金融科技、公司金融、公司治理、政治经济学和企业经营策略等,已在American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal,Management Science,《经济研究》等国内外学术期刊发表论文60余篇。
