Overview of Soochow University
Situated in the historical and picturesque city of Suzhou, a metropolis popularly hailed as “the Paradise on Earth”, Soochow University is a national key university listed in the Project 211 and a first-class member institute in the “2011 Program”. With 24 colleges and schools, the university now possesses 134 undergraduate programs, 4 national key disciplines, 8 preponderant disciplines and 5 key sequence disciplines in Jiangsu province, and 15 key first-level disciplines in Jiangsu Province during the 13th Five Year Plan. Up till now, there are 8 disciplines listed in the top 1% in the Global ESI.
Currently, Soochow University houses one Nobel Prize winner, 6 academicians in Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 3 academicians from developed countries. Meanwhile, 15 researchers of the university are selected into the “1000 Talents Program”, and another 46 into the “1000 Young Talents Program”. Besides, 6 Special Term Professors of the university are awarded by the Changjiang Scholars Program, with another 3 being awarded by the “ChangJiang Young Scholar Program”. In addition, the university also accommodates 21 winners of the “National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”, 32 winners of the “Fund for Excellent Youths”, 1 member for the “10 Thousand Talents Plan—Distinguished Talents Plan”, 3 members for the “10 Thousand Talents Plan—Technical Innovation Leading Talents Plan”, and 3 members for the “10 Thousand Talents Plan—Young Elite Support Plan”.

Targets of the Recruitment
In accordance with the Senior Talent Plan of the University, two types of positions are offered: University Professor &Specially AppointedProfessor.
n UniversityProfessor
Winners of Nobel Prize, Turing Award, and other top prizes in the world; academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering; and other masters and scholars with a high academic reputation and great influence in China and other countries and regions. The age of the applicants for this position shall not exceed 65.
n Specially AppointedProfessor
Outstanding Talents:Applicants for this position shall possess outstanding academic achievements in certain disciplines, and are widely acknowledged by peer researches at home and abroad. Applicants should maintain certain academic influence in related societies in the world, and promote the development of related areas by leading those young researchers with a strong organizing and management ability. Meanwhile, applicants shall meet one of the following requirements, and their ages shall not exceed 55.
1) Member of the “1000 Talents Program” [The Recruitment Program for Innovative Talents (Long Term)];
2) Member of the “10 Thousand Talents Plan” (Distinguished Talents Plan or Leading Talents Plan);
3) Special Term Professors under the “Changjiang Scholars Program”
4) Winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars;
5) National-Level Famous Teacher or the First Prize (or above) winner of “National-level Outstanding Achievements in Education” (Ranking in the first place);
6) Second Prize winner or above of the National Natural Science Awards, National Technology Invention Awards or National S&T Progress Awards; or the First Prize winner of provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards; or the First-Class award winner of the Outstanding Science Research Achievements in Higher Institution of the Ministry of Education (Humanity and Social Sciences, Ranking in the first place);
7) Director-in-general of major national-level projects;
8) Masters, national-level craftsmen or successor widely acknowledged in certain field;
9) Professors, associate professors or the equivalent in top international universities or research institutes; or the director-in-general in the development department of famous multinational corporations;
10) Other senior talents with similar qualifications as described above.
Excellent Talents:Applicants for this position shall possess relatively good academic achievements in certain disciplines, and the potential of innovative development. Generally, the age of these applicants shall not exceed 45 (or 52 in humanity and social sciences), and they should also meet one of the following requirements:
1) Member of the “1000 Talents Program” (the Recruitment Program for Young Professionals);
2) Member of the“10 Thousand Talents Plan” (Young Elite Support Plan)
3) Special Term Professors under the “Changjiang Scholars Program” (Young Scholar Program);
4) Winner of the “Fund for Excellent Youths”;
5) Young and middle-aged leading scientists, engineers and innovators under the Ministry of Science and Technology;
6) Second Prize winner of “State-level Outstanding Achievements in Education”, or the Special Prize winner of provincial-level outstanding achievements in education (ranking in the first place);
7) Second-class award winner of the Outstanding Science Research Achievements in Higher Institution of the Ministry of Education (Humanity and Social Sciences, ranking in the first place); or the first prize winner of otherprovincial and ministerial-level outstanding achievements (Humanity and Social Sciences, ranking in the first place); or the candidate selected into the National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences.
8) Director-in-general ofmajor state-level projects (Young Professionals projects) or key state-level projects;
9) Candidate of the evaluation of Special Term Professors under the "Changjiang Scholars Program" or that National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars;
10) Associate professors, assistant professors or the equivalent in high-level intenational universities or research institutes.
11) Other senior talents with similar qualifications as described above.
Elite Talents:Applicants for this position shall possess development potential and certain academic achievements in their professional areas. Generally, the age of these applicants shall not exceed 38 (or 42 in humanity and social sciences), and they should also meet one of the following requirements:
1) Candidates for the “1000 Talents Program” (the Recruitment Program for Young Professionals); or the“10 Thousand Talents Plan” (Young Elite Support Plan); or the candidates for the evaluation of Special Term Professors under the “Changjiang Scholars Program” or that of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars;
2) Publishing at least 3 academic papers in authoritative journals of related fields in the past five years (for talents in humanity and social sciences); holdingnational-level projects; or second prize winner of relevant awards at provincial and ministerial-levels (ranking in the first place).
3) Assistant Professors or the equivalent in high-level international universities or research institutes;
4) Other senior talents with similar qualifications as described above.
Salaries & Benefits
The university provides competitive and personalized salaries to talents of different types, and the payment varies from person to person. Meanwhile, the university also provides the recruited talents with some initial allocations, laboratories & workplaces, and research assistants accordingly. Process of Talent Introduction
üApplicants shall make requests to the college/school involved, fill the application form and provide related certificates and evidences
üThe academic board of the college/school involved would evaluate the applicant and review related materials
üA joint session of the administrators and leaders of the CPC committee of the college/school would be held to review related materials and offer suggestions.
üThe human resource department would review related materials again, and offer suggestions.
üA final review and decision would be made by the university.
üIf approved by the university, the human resource department would state the process of introduction.
