The students of this class are recruited from a 4-year program majoring in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and their main basic and professional courses are taught in English.
I. Major Introduction
Pharmaceutical Sciences is the National First-Class Undergraduate Major. The pharmaceutical education at SU can be traced back to 1949 when there was a special department for pharmacy training developed by the former SU. In 1952, the department was incorporated into the East China College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 1994, Suzhou Medical College recruited three-year pharmacy college students and began to recruit four-year undergraduates in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1997. Currently, Pharmaceutical Sciences recruit about 100 students per year. In response to the development of the pharmaceutical industries, the students are trained in three programs including academic, applied, and clinical types. This major is straightly supported by professional Pharmaceutical Sciences disciplines with doctoral degree-granting and postdoctoral research stations, a provincial distinguishing discipline, a provincial key laboratory, and a pharmacy disciplinary training center. Especially, the discipline of Pharmacology and Toxicology is in the top 0.2% of the world's ESI.
II. Education Objectives
The purpose is to train students of pharmaceutical sciences to meet the demand for talents in the development of medical and health undertakings. Upon education, the undergraduates should understand the fundamental knowledge and techniques of pharmaceutical sciences, and have professional ethics and humanistic qualities as well as innovative spirit and entrepreneurship. After graduation, the students will become well-trained scientific professionals in the fields of drug research and development, pharmaceutical production and analysis, pharmacy, pharmaceutical marketing, and pharmacy administration.
III. Graduation Requirements
According to the complete undergraduate training plan, graduates of this major should complete all courses in the teaching plan and obtain the required credits. They should have the corresponding knowledge, ability, and quality, and should meet the following basic graduation requirements:
1. Master the basic concepts, basic theories, and basic experimental skills of Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Drug Analysis.
2. Master the preparation technology, process optimization, and prescription screening of pharmaceutical preparations; master the establishment of quality standards and quality control techniques for drugs and their preparations; master the basic methods and technologies of new drug research and development, such as pharmacodynamics and drug safety evaluation of drugs and their preparation, and have strong experimental operation skills.
3. Have the ability to do research and develop new drugs, including the ability to design new drug molecules, the ability to design drug preparations, the ability to select drug analysis methods, the ability to conduct pharmacological experiments and evaluation of new drugs, and the ability to participate in the direction of clinical rational drug use.
4. Be familiar with the basic knowledge of laws, policies, and marketing of pharmaceutical administration.
5. Master the basic methods of literature retrieval and data query, and have basic scientific research ability.
6. Understand the development trend of modern pharmacy and have the primary ability to apply new technology.
7. Be able to read and understand the research literature of this major.

V. Practices
Students should do a graduate internship of 32 weeks in the fourth year. During the graduation internship, students should complete the theses, including research papers, translation of a scientific article in English, and a literature review. Only the students whose theses have been qualified by the instructor, professional reviewers, and the dissertation committee can obtain the corresponding credits.

The study duration is normally 4 years and is allowed for 3-6 years. Within the study duration, the students must acquire all the credits required by professional teaching plans before applying for graduation. The application will be awarded the Bachelor's Degree of Science if all the degree requirements are met.
VII. Permission to Enter Graduation Design(Thesis)
The students are required to obtain no less than 130 credits before entering the graduation design(Thesis)stage.
VIII. International Application Requirements
1. Non-Chinese citizens who are in good health and holding valid ordinary foreign passports, and applicants under the age of 18 are required to provide guardianship certificates.
2. High school graduate or equivalent.
