Undergraduate Repertoire Requirements
- Memorization required
- If applicant lives overseas, an unedited DVD is acceptable
Piano
1). A work from the Baroque period (for example, a Prelude & Fugue fromThe Well-Tempered Clavierby J.S. Bach or a Sonata by Scarlatti).
2). First movement in sonata-allegro form from a classical sonata (not sonatina) by Clementi, Mozart, Haydn, or Beethoven.
3). A work from the romantic period –does not include an etude
4). A work of the applicant’s choice.
Violin
1).Major and minor scales and arpeggios, three octaves
2). Two contrasting movements of unaccompanied Bach Sonata or Partita Or Mozart concerto (first movement)
3). One Paganini or Wieniawski Caprice
4). The 1st or 2nd & 3rd movement of a concerto from the standard repertoire
5).The 1st or 2nd and 3rd movement of a classical sonata from the standard repertoire
Viola
1).Major and minor scales, arpeggios in three octaves with various bowings.
2).An etude of your choice
3).Two contrasting movements from any of the Bach Cello Suites
4).A movement of a major concerto including Bartok (1st or 2nd and 3rd movement) or Walton (1st or 2nd movement).
5).A virtuosic piece or a 20th or 21st century work.
Violoncello
1). One major or minor scale, (four octaves, at least 4 notes per bow) as well as arpeggios, double stops (3rds and 6ths)
2).Awork of free choice
Double Bass
1). One scale and arpeggios in three octaves, must be in one of the following keys: E, F or G (major or minor)
2). One etude of your choice, or a movement a solo work by Bach
3). One movement from a major concerto or sonata (must be performed from memory)
4). One prepared excerpts from the standard orchestral literature (music may be used for this portion only).
Woodwinds and Brass
1).Major and minor scales (harmonic, melodic) scales through 7 sharps and flats
2).Two contrasting etudes showing the applicant's level of technical and musical ability. ( ex. one slow etude, one fast etude)
3).At least one major solo of the applicant's choice
Harp
1).Onescale and arpeggio of free choice
2).An etude offreechoice
3).One piece from the baroque or classical era original or transcription
4).One piece of the romantic or impressionistic era originally written for harp
Percussion
Undergraduate percussion majors should be able to demonstrate technical and musical ability on the three major percussion instruments –Snare Drum,Mallet Keyboard(one 2-mallet and one 4-mallet piece preferred) andTimpani. Applicants are also encouraged to demonstrate rolling ability and rudiments on Snare Drum, scales and arpeggios on Mallet Keyboard, and interval tuning on Timpani. Please choose music appropriate to your current ability. Suggestions of appropriate audition repertoire include:

Please bring your own mallets, sticks, and one copy of audition repertoire sheet music. Instruments will be provided for warm up and the audition.
