The school nurtures and augments excellence in research in biomedicine, biotechnology and pertinent basic sciences, focusing particularly on several areas of our strength with emphasis on a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach. Following our research & innovation strategy plan, the school has created several research centers/institutes, including Biotechnology Research Institute, Center for Biological Clock Study, Judicial Appraisal Institute, Sericulture Research Institute, and Fisheries Research Institute that are active and productive.

In the last three years, over 120 major research programs have been awarded, including those under the National Key Basic Research ('973') Program, National High Technology ('863') Program, Key Project of Natural Science Foundation of China, and Major Biomedicine Innovation Project, total budget over 1 billion RMB. More than 300 research articles were published in peer-reviewed international journals. Faculty members of the school have also won a first prize for Science and Technology Innovation from the Ministry of Textile Industry, and a second prize for Science and Technology Advances from the Ministry of Education of China.
