Prof. Shuit-Tong Lee is amember (academician) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS).He is the Founding Director of FUNSOM, the Founding Dean of the College of Nano Science & Technology (CNST) at Soochow University,the Founding Director of Macao Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (MIMSE) at Macau University of Science and Technology, and the Director of Collaborative Innovation Center of Suzhou Nano Science and Technology (NANO-CIC). He was a Senior Research Scientist and Project Manager at the Research Laboratories of Eastman Kodak Company (U.S.A.), a Chair Professor of Materials Science and the Founding Director of the Center of Super-Diamond and Advanced Films (COSDAF) at City University of Hong Kong.
Prof. Lee’s research interest is in nanomaterial and nanotechnology, and has made outstanding contributions to the fields of functional nanomaterials and devices, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display technology, and diamond and super-hard thin film technology. He was awarded the Humboldt Senior Research Award (Germany) in 2001 and a Croucher Senior Research Fellowship from the Croucher Foundation (HK) in 2002 for the studies of “Nucleation and growth of diamond and new carbon based materials” and “Oxide-assisted growth and applications of semiconducting nanowires”, respectively. He also won the National Natural Science Award of PRC (second class) in 2002, 2005, and 2013 for the above two research achievements and “Organic Optical Functional Materials for High Efficiency Photoelectric Conversion”, respectively.He was awarded the 2008 Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho-Leung-Ho-Lee Foundation and the 2023 Top Ten Outstanding Figures in the Overseas Chinese Community in China.
Prof. Lee’s research has resulted in more than 1100 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious chemistry, physics and materials science journals, 9 book chapters and over 20 US patents, among them 7 papers were published in Science and Nature (London) and some others were selected as cover papers. His publications have received more than 80,000 citations by others with an H-index of 144. He was listed as one of ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ by Clarivate Analytics / Thomson Reuters in 2014-2023. Prof. Lee has been awarded over 30 research projects in Hong Kong, with total funding over 60 million Hong Kong dollars from HK Research Grants Council and Innovation and Technology Fund. He has been a PI or co-PI of a number of projects from the National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program) and the National Basic Research Program (973 Program) in the mainland of China.
Prof. Lee has served on the editorial board in a number of science and technology journals. He isan associate chief editor of ACS Nano (2013-2022),an associate chief editor of Applied Physics Letters (2006-2014), the regional editor for Asia of Physica Status Solidi (2004-2007), member of editorial board of New Carbon Materials and Journal of Materials Science & Technology, and member of advisory editorial board of Advanced Functional Materials and Applied Nanoscience. In addition, Prof. Lee is an advisory/guest/honorary professor of over 15 universities and institutes in the mainland of China. He is advisory professor of Fudan University, honorary professor of Shandong University and Central South University, adjunct professor of Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS, guest professor of Institute of Physics, CAS and Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, CAS, and guest professor of Peking University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Jilin University, Zhejiang University, and Dalian University of Technology.
